One of my favorite songs is called So Good To Me by Cory Asbury. Most of my friends make fun of me for how much I listen to it, but I just love the message of this song.
The whole song is about how God is present in our life through the joy and mourning of it all and by the time you get to the chorus you find yourself singing about how God is so good to us.
(I will admit that perhaps my love for this song is a little over the top. I do play it as often as I can, it is my ring tone on my phone
and whenever I am on a mission trip, this is a song I share with everyone). Don’t judge.
I think that at the core of my love for this song is the reminder that no matter what happens, God is good.
I think about how God was good to me through every death I have experienced. As difficult and sad as each of those experiences was, looking back it was clear to see that God was there through it all offering me hope in the fact that someday I would be reunited with my loved ones.
I think about how God was good to me when I was diagnosed with depression. Even though I thought I was alone and isolated, looking back it was clear to see that God was there through every step of the way.
I think about how God has been good to me as my loved ones have gotten older and have dealt with new health issues. Through every doctor’s appointment and every curveball we have received, I can rest assured that God
has been there with us in every celebration and every disappointment.
Over and over again, no matter how dark or difficult life may have been, God has been good because God has been there every step of the way. Even when I felt like I didn’t deserve God’s presence in my life, God was
there.
Which leads me to a powerful verse in the bible.
I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, and on Your wondrous works. People shall speak of the might of Your awesome acts, and I will declare Your greatness. They shall utter the memory of Your great goodness, and shall sing of Your righteousness.
-Psalm 145:5-7
What I love about this scripture is that the author, like I have done today in this
devotional, is making a commitment to continuously reflect and proclaim the
goodness of God throughout his life.
Honestly, I think we are all called to do this. We are all called to tell the world of the
splendor of God’s majesty. We are all called to share of what God is doing in our lives and to declare God’s greatness. We are all called to look back and see how God has been good. And when we look back and see God’s goodness, we are called to let the world know of God’s goodness.
But as I was reflecting on this verse, I thought of something that had never crossed my mind before. As we proclaim to the world of the goodness of God, we will always fall
short of painting a full picture of God’s goodness.
The reality is that God’s love for us is so much greater than we can even begin to
understand. And because God’s love for us is so vast, it also means that God’s goodness towards us is far greater than we can even begin to describe or understand.
Yes, we are called to share of God’s goodness but I want you to always remember one powerful truth: no matter how hard we try, we will never be able to exaggerate about
the goodness of God.
Whatever or however we can describe the goodness of God’s to others, will always be an understatement of just how good God is.
So I want to challenge you to share God’s goodness with others. Reflect on what God has done and share that story and that goodness with others. And above all, as you
reflect on God’s goodness, rest assured that the goodness you have experience is but a glimpse of who God is. I don’t know about you, but for me, there is something very comforting in knowing that.
